Step 1: Apply for Admission to NSU
- Access the NSU online undergraduate application.
- Begin by completing the questions regarding personal information. You will then be directed to a section about planned course of study (items 6-10).
- In order to expedite your admission process, please answer the following questions with the information provided:
- Item 6 Planned course of study: Choose undergraduate or undecided.
- Item 7 Indicate primary campus: Type in 'Broken Arrow'.
(Note: You will not be required to attend class on the Broken Arrow campus. The certificate program is administered from this campus in the College of Extended Learning.)
- Item 8 Indicate your student type: Type in 'Special'.
- Item 9 If you are a transfer student or a returning student, are you pursuing a degree completion program through the College of Extended Learning: Choose YES.
(Note, choose ‘yes’ even if you are NOT a transfer or returning student. This assists us in identifying all students in College of Extended Learning programs.)
- Item 10 If yes, enter ONLY ONE of the following: CRJ, HCA, or HFS: Type in Certificate of Emergency Management and Planning.
(Note: The certificate is a new program in the College of Extended Learning, and the admission application has not yet been added.)
- The remaining questions are self-explanatory and relate to your prior educational experience.

Step 2: Declare Your Intent to Complete the Certificate Program
- Declaring your intent to enroll in the Certificate of Emergency Management and Planning. Please complete the Declaration Form.
- Complete the form using the instructions provided within. Save the form and email it to Kris Rider at riderka@nsuok.edu or fax it to (918) 449-6571.
Step 3: Enroll in Your Classes
Once you receive a letter of admission, complete the following steps to prepare for enrollment:
Step 4: Purchase Your Textbooks
- Order textbooks for the class through the NSU RiverHawk Shoppe or any other online book store. The textbooks required for the first two courses are:
- Book 1: “Introduction to Emergency Management, 4th ed.”, Haddow, Bullock, Coppola, published by Butterworth-Heinemann, ISBN – 978-1-85617-959-1.
- Book 2: Hazard Mitigation and Preparedness, by Schwab, et al, published by Wiley, ISBN – 978-0-471-79019-8.
Step 5: Access Your Course in BlackBoard
- After you have enrolled, you will receive step-by-step instructions on accessing your courses in Blackboard. Please monitor your GreenMail account (NSU email account) for information.
